“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them,

and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

But it shall not be so among you:

but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto,

but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, KJV)

The word the Athenians used for their Assembly was Ekklesia, the same word used in the New Testament for Church
(and it is the greatest philological irony in all of Western history that this word,
which connoted equal participation in all deliberation by all members,
came to designate a kind of self-perpetuating, self-protective Spartan gerousia -
which would have seemed patent nonsense to Greek-speaking Christians of New Testament times,
who believed themselves to be equal members of their Assembly.)

LET THE GAMES BEGIN - AGAIN! ?

“A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.”
 Winston Churchill

From the decision of the Holy Eparchial Synod and Archbishop Demetrios in a Letter to the Greek Orthodox Community of Greater Salt Lake dated March 24, 2011:

"The ecclesiastical charter that was issued on April 10, 2010 is to be considered inapplicable and consequently withdrawn. Similarly, the Prophet Elias corporation will be formally dissolved and no separate trade names will be filed with the state of Utah for Holy Trinity and  Prophet Elias."

Mr. Shand is an attorney. Aside from the pure peevishness by him and his cohorts, surely no part of this statement is confusing, vague or unambiguous! So, yet again, as if this hasn't been pointed out over and over again, what part of "NO SEPARATE TRADE NAMES" is unclear?

Further, the people listed below must have felt that there was a clear "go ahead" signal - since they reinstated their attempt to separately incorporate the church they intend to separate from this community on the very same day that the suit against a former selected parish council was dropped! Obviously, this action once again provides "hope" for the very few who want to effect a land grab, and to continue the shenanigans that caused this debacle.

Since they don't have the fortitude and the faith to do what our grandparents did and build their own church, they intend, yet again - STILL, after nearly destroying what it took decades to build -  through their own selfishness, to try to take a church and its assets away from this community.

Not on our watch!

WHAT GIVES?

It would seem that one could be forgiven for asking this question!
  • The lawsuit has been dismissed.
  • All but one of the elected parish council members has been sworn in, despite dismissal of the lawsuit - which was a CONDITION of sweraring in the remaining candidates. Mr. Bapis chose to decline - Mr. Armaou did NOT - the suit is dismissed - Mr. Armaou MUST and SHOULD be sworn in IMMEDIATELY!
  • And, ULTIMATELY, the community is NOT to be split.
Yet Mr. Bruce Shand has, despite any of these circumstances, apparently, failed to disband registration for a separate corporate entity for Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church! (Note: others for "disobeying" -  for far less -  were SANCTIONED! We demand EQUAL treatment for Mr. Shand!)

Actually, it seems that the TWO corporate entities in the name of the Prophet Elias Church were disbanded once the decision was made to leave the community intact and to have a general assembly followed by free and fair elections. The one showing Mr. Mylonakis as registered agent was, and still appears to be, inactivated. Mr. Shand's registration showed as inactive throughout late April and all of May. Yet it was activated on June 4th - the SAME day the plaintiffs signed to dismiss the lawsuit against former parish council members! Is this a coincidence?
At a time when this community is desperately trying to heal, it seems that the diehards in a small minority are STILL insistent, despite several votes indicating NO SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT for a split, and will not let this go!

What part of "NO" isn't being understood?

The parish council, the clergy and the hierarchy should immediately INSIST that this entity be inactivated. Enough is enough! Let the dividers STOP!
