“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them,

and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

But it shall not be so among you:

but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto,

but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, KJV)

The word the Athenians used for their Assembly was Ekklesia, the same word used in the New Testament for Church
(and it is the greatest philological irony in all of Western history that this word,
which connoted equal participation in all deliberation by all members,
came to designate a kind of self-perpetuating, self-protective Spartan gerousia -
which would have seemed patent nonsense to Greek-speaking Christians of New Testament times,
who believed themselves to be equal members of their Assembly.)

CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE COMMUNITY'S PARISH COUNCIL: December 10, 2013

Moderator's Note: This correspondence was sent out today by our Parish Council. It may be viewed in the original form here.

December 10, 2013

Dear Parishioners,

Please find below the Salt Lake Parish Council Letter of 12-9-2013.

Your Parish Council met last night for a scheduled Parish Council meeting to discuss important community issues including the Parish Council election results.

Many Parishioners were present.

Our Proestamenoi were not present and no prior notification of their absence was given. (Fr. Elias notified our President on Sunday Dec 8, 2013 that he would be on vacation).

We were informed by one of the parish council members at the beginning of the meeting that Fr. Michael was not coming. Towards the end of the meeting the same parish council member received a text from Fr. Michael stating that the proestamenoi were directed by our Metropolitan to not attend the Parish Council meeting.

Election results and other important issues will be communicated to the Parish via separate communication.

We are in constant communication with the Archdiocese and pray for resolution of our present difficulties.

In His Name and Service,

Your Parish Council
