“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them,

and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

But it shall not be so among you:

but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto,

but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, KJV)

The word the Athenians used for their Assembly was Ekklesia, the same word used in the New Testament for Church
(and it is the greatest philological irony in all of Western history that this word,
which connoted equal participation in all deliberation by all members,
came to designate a kind of self-perpetuating, self-protective Spartan gerousia -
which would have seemed patent nonsense to Greek-speaking Christians of New Testament times,
who believed themselves to be equal members of their Assembly.)

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!

In order to help the thousands affected by the recent catastrophic fires in Greece,
the following account has been set up by the government of Greece to collect donations. Any individual may wire from their own bank into this fund, so this is a great option. The information you will need is as follows:
Bank of Greece Swift Code: BNGRGRAAIBAN#: GR9801000230000002341103053
Account Number: 23/2341103053
Please be certain to bring all of the above numbers with you for proper processing. We have been advised that there is no additional fee to wire money and that transaction fees are processed on the incoming side. However, please check with your particular bank to be certain. We thank the Greek Embassy of Los Angeles for providing us with this information.

My family has been traveling through Greece during this difficult time for the Greeks. already many Greek Americans have made donations and I can say, firsthand, that the Greeks have been universally appreciative.
