“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them,

and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

But it shall not be so among you:

but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto,

but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, KJV)

The word the Athenians used for their Assembly was Ekklesia, the same word used in the New Testament for Church
(and it is the greatest philological irony in all of Western history that this word,
which connoted equal participation in all deliberation by all members,
came to designate a kind of self-perpetuating, self-protective Spartan gerousia -
which would have seemed patent nonsense to Greek-speaking Christians of New Testament times,
who believed themselves to be equal members of their Assembly.)

WE SHALL OVERCOME!

Dear Fellow Greek Orthodox Christians,
(here in the Greater Salt Lake Area and elsewhere in the world)

It is all about the money: Read the last four lines of the third full paragraph of his letter. Now he is even reneging on the Skedros Foundation $800,000. He says “… two million dollars are missing … .” Thank God that they are missing from his control. The money DOES NOT BELONG to him, nor to the parish council. The money belongs to the PARISH, our ENORIA; the money was collected to build a gymnasium and to build Sunday School Rooms at the Cathedral campus. Not to be used as payment for the “poll tax.”

He is a master flip-flopper. Read his letters sent over the last six-to-eight years. He changes positions whenever he changes his mind. He never lets the truth interfere with his espoused positions. His sails change at each direction of the wind.

Whoever the “… the six individuals …” are, they deserve the “Badge of Honor” bestowed by him. The six disenfranchised individuals have toiled collectively for 300 years plus, under extremely difficult and disadvantageous conditions, for their Church. These SIX made immeasurable contributions to our Community. It is so petty for the Metropolitan to assassinate their character.

Personally I would wear this “Badge of Honor” proudly.

Please tell him if you get a chance. We are not merely “identified” with our Church (first par., his latest missive); WE, THE PARISHIONERS, ARE THE CHURCH; both literary and figuratively. He and his cronies are “carpet baggers.” They NEED to leave us alone. We the parishioners of the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Salt Lake [and our forefathers before us have and] can accomplish wonders (but not miracles) without their help. We have proved it. We collected and expended approximately 5 million dollars for the Holy Trinity Cathedral edifice. With one motive only, the glory of God.

ATTEND AND VOTE "NO" on November 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm; VOTE against the passage of the two agenda items.

Send a loud message to him. Tell him that he and his appointed clergy, have earned the right to become irrelevant in our individual and collective spiritual lives. We do not want to live by his example, NOR by his deeds.

WE SHALL OVERCOME.

Best to all,

Nick

Hmmmm. Very compelling.

Titus 1:7-9

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
